Vilna is more than just another UTN town. Vilna looks different because it is different. Vilna is biocentric, ergonomic, and fun! Biocentric means that Vilna appeals to our deep down biophilia, by including animals and plants. Alpha World, where Vilna is located, does not seem to supply these beyond some skimpy little flowers that look like they belong in a headstoneless cemetery and some trees. There is nothing that produces an edible crop except apple trees, and there is no wildlife unless one counts that silly horse statue. Without a world of nature around us, human beings become very unhappy. I feel that one of the reasons why so many structures lie abandoned all over alpha world is that those who built them attempted to survive by bricks and mortar alone. If you would like some of the plants and animals I have created, they are available at Vilna Flats.

Ergonomic, means that Vilna is built where possible to a human scale and needs. That is why you don't see those boring grey streets in Vilna. They are impossible to follow for any length of time without becoming hypnotized with boredom. Remember, everyone walks or flies in Active Worlds. Colored streets or trails with obstructions and landmarks and changing colors work better for travel. Similarly, Vilna includes cairn architecture, buildings that are hollow piles of painted stones. These have a cozy intimate feel instead of feeling like empty boxes.

Vilna is fun! I had fun building it and you can have fun building there too. I don't believe in censorship so build whatever you like. I enjoy innovations. You have to live with my innovations, so I can live with yours.

Vilna FAQ

Where is Vilna?
Vilna is located about 5000 cells northeast of ground zero in Alpha World.

Can you give me a guided tour?
You are at the eastern end of Vilna, more or less. To your east lies Tyrian's Road 5081e. We are about half way up Tyrian's Road, and you know from just looking around that I would never build anything like that. If you go west, eventually, you will reach Fuir's Field of Dreams, a preserve of toilet bowls that bounce you around like bumper cars Beyond that and a lot of green ground cover is a bar/restaurant complex run by JKMT Builders.

At about 5040, the trail forks north and south. The northern spur leads to the Lake of Fire and beyond to JKMT Builders Land. Note: if you follow this trail north, JKMT has lots of barren green property before you reach their bar and nightclub. Also the waters in the Lake of Fire are golden. Water does not have to be blue. Yes, you can go swimming there.

South, the trail leads to Vilna Farm which is my home here on Active Worlds. Vilna Farm is mainly a truck farm, though there is a donkey hitched out behind the house and I have some goats as well and plenty of bee hives. I run what I suspect is Alpha World's only apiary. Those green and yellow things are bee hives. Those black and gold things on the walls of the honey house are honey combs waiting to be processed. I hope to have a chicken house set up soon. I have some beautiful buff orpington hens and cocks ready to go.

If you venture south of Vilna Farm, the road goes all the way to 571n 5035e. You will pass Gan Shalom synagogue (I believe this is Alpha World's only synagogue) on the way down. There are Judaica links hidden in the walls. The road south below the farm, is the only road in Vilna with embedded midi. That was a mistake that I'll get around to fixing one of these days. I would rather have the music available through a URL link that gives visitors a choice of tune or no tune at all.

Does anyone live here but you?
Nope, at the moment, it's just me, Roanna. Of course when city people like myself move out to the country, they end up very lonely. That is why I built all this trail to my neighbors. The trails I built southward only met up with abandoned property. There are many gohst towns in Alpha World.

Can I build here?
You certainly can. Please email me if you do as a courtesy. I am a fanatic about this place, and chances are sooner or later I will see your property. Vilna is quite large, and if you want an internal teleport link, just ask for one.

Can I build here if I'm a tourist?
Sure. I don't get a share of that $20 you pay Active Worlds, not that I regretted paying my dues. Vilna Chat is currently in operatition so we can bypass the citizens only telegraph network if enough tourists sign on.

Where can I build?
Anywhere that doesn't encroach on someone else's property. I am planning to expand my farm, but if you build next to it, I can always find land somewhere else. There is more than enough space and seed space to go around.

Your buildings are so...ugly! I don't want to build like that? Why did you build this crap anyway?
Boy, I am glad you asked that question. I have tried as hard as I know how to build something that didn't look like an sterile steel, glass, and stone monument that stands in the middle of the uncharted green wastes. I like the funky patterns and color. I adore living things. I think that the high rate of abandonment of houses here on Active Worlds is due to the fact that most of the architecture ends up looking nice but sterile. Please read the introduction at the top of this document.

Do I have to build like you? I still want "nice normal buildings." I like things clean. Is this the town for me? If you want people to build here, you have to build like the rest of us?
Excuse me. Look who is laying down the rules. You can build any way you please. I can't stop you. Those glass and steel monstrosities make sense to a lot of folks, and if you can live with what I put together, I can live with what you build. That said, please leave a street, trail, or line of landmarks between your creation and one of the trails, the Lake of Fire, or Tyrian's road. If there is already property between your building and a trail, the Lake of Fire, or Tyrian's Road, then build some form of street, path, or landmark line to allow people to walk to that property. Also leave some seed space for another builder to put up something next to you.

OK, but why do you have pigs walking around, and why is there a pig in this building?
I am Jewish and didn't want to raise swine, so I turned the pigs loose along with the deer. They form some of the wildlife and since they like to eat garbage, they show up where humans do. That pig in the Orientation Center, just walked in. Human beings are the dirtiest creatures on the planet anyway and you don't object to them. No, the pigs will not invade your property if you build here.

And what about those chickens?
Those are guinea fowl, not chickens. I keep them down by the East Gate because I am down there working a lot. The guinea fowl eat insects and scraps of human food and I can keep an eye on them while I build. I do have chickens but they live near my farm.

Do you allow swearing?
People ask this everywhere, so the answer is yes. Go ahead, swear at the pigs and the guinea fowl and the Pere David's Deer. You can cuss out the building inspector. She deserves it. Most of the time you'll be by yourself so cuss away.

Do you allow pornography?
Why not? I'm over eighteen, and not easily offended. If you like it build it.
